Postal Service food drive is Saturday in Basehor
This weekend, Basehor residents can participate in the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
U.S. Postal Service mail carriers will be collecting nonperishable food donations all day Saturday while on their routes as part of the “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.”
All of the food collected by the Basehor postal carriers will be turned over to Basehor-Linwood Assistance Services, an agency that helps people in need who live in the boundaries of the Basehor-Linwood School District.
The drive, sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association and the U.S. Postal Service, is the largest single-day food drive in the United States.
To participate, residents on Saturday are asked to place any nonperishable food items in or near their mailboxes for the carriers to collect.
Taryn Bilbruck is the Basehor postmaster. Ed Greenwell is the postal clerk in Basehor. Carriers are Steve Crupper, Theresa Gergick, Dennis Petree and Krystal Vickers.
