Bobcats volleyball stringing together victories ahead of sub-state
Basehor-Linwood volleyball defeated Piper in four sets on Tuesday (27-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-8).
Brandi Stahl led the way with 17 kills, followed by Allison Heinen with 11. Abbey Mellies (10) and Madi Osterhaus (9) also came through for the Bobcats. Mellies also led Basehor-Linwood with seven blocks, while Haley Waters led the team in digs.
Jaime Weible and Haley Robinson each added a pair of ace serves.
The Bobcats’ latest league victory followed a fourth-place showing in the De Soto Invitational on Saturday in which Basehor-Linwood picked up victories against Spring Hill, Jefferson North and Eudora. Basehor-Linwood coach Amy Irvin said the Bobcats were at game-point to go to the championship game three times but just couldn’t push the point. Still, she said, Irvin is pleased with the Bobcats’ direction as sub-state play creeps closer.
“We played very strong,” Irvin said. “I was proud of us. It was great for the girls to see their level of play and intensity going into the end of the season towards sub-state.”
Just two more matches separate the Bobcats from sub-state play on Oct. 20 in Tonganoxie. Basehor-Linwood travels to Turner for a 5:30 p.m. Monday match before hosting senior night at 6 p.m. on Tuesday against Lansing.
