Schuler leads BSHS boys cross-country to third in Ottawa, girls fourth
The Bonner Springs boys cross-country team placed third at the Ottawa Invitational on Saturday, led by Austin Schuler’s third-overall finish.
Other varsity medalists included Joe Casteel (eighth), Thomas Hook (11th), Jake Wenzel (12th) and Zach Quigley (20th).
Coach Bill Downing said that each member of the boys cross-country team — which also included Trey Scott and Rodrigo Fernandez Alvarado — ran course personal records.
The girls team, which was missing Kennedy Bacon and Tanya Hernandez, placed fourth at the meet.
“Mandy (Ballou) continues to run well every week and provides an excellent example of leadership,” girls coach Rob Marriott said. “Tessa Newberry is also a model of consistency. Together they are molding our younger girls into a hard working team.”
The Braves return to competition in the Wyandotte County Invitational on Oct. 4.
