Bonner Springs alum bound for Hall of Fame
Bonner Springs native Craig Sorensen will be inducted to Missouri S&T’s 2012 Hall of Fame on Saturday in Rolla, Mo. in recognition of his two-sport career at the school.
Sorensen played football and competed in track and field as a Miner, earning All-America honors as a member of the men’s track and field squad. At the 1994 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, Sorensen placed third in the high jump when he cleared 6-9. Earlier that season, Sorensen cleared a record height of 6-10.75 twice, including at the Kansas Relays.
A two-time MIAA champion in the outdoor high jump, Sorensen competed in three NCAA championship meets during his college career. He also played four seasons for the Miners’ football team, leading Missouri S&T with 29 receptions in 1994.
Saturday’s induction ceremony will be take place at 2:30 p.m. at Matt’s Steakhouse, and this year’s class will also be honored at halftime of the Miners’ football game later that night at 6:30 p.m.
