Mentoring program to continue in Basehor
Basehor-Linwood School District is ensuring mentors and students that the YouthFriends program will continue to operate in Basehor, although it will take on another name.
Kansas City, Mo.-based YouthFriends, which provided mentoring resources to about 30 school districts in Kansas, had been facing financial difficulties in recent years, and announced Thursday that it would be shutting down.
Although it will no longer exist under the YouthFriends name after May 31, Basehor-Linwood Director Tammy Potts said the district will maintain the mentoring program.
“We’re still here,” Potts said. “We’re not going away.”
The district will take on full ownership of the program, Potts said, but funding options still are under review. The Basehor program will maintain all of its current partnerships and standards, and the only real change will be the name, she added.
