Kara Stephens scored twice, but the Basehor-Linwood girls soccer team fell, 5-2, to Piper on Friday.

BLHS coach Derek Mazeitis said the “game was a lot closer than the game indicated,” adding that he thought the Bobcats’ intensity level was high throughout the game.

Julie Lough, Hailey Robinson, Sam Rutherford and Nicole Rutherford also impressed Mazeitis, who said BLHS had its best effort to date.

“It was a back and forth battle that was closer than the score,” he said. “When we were trying to throw numbers at the goal late they got a couple behind us.”

BLHS (2-3) will next play at Bonner Springs on Tuesday.
