Julie Lough placed fourth overall and just seven shots out of first, shooting a 50 after a scorecard playoff at Washburn Rural to open the Basehor-Linwood girls golf season on Tuesday.

Marriah Clayton placed 11th and Hanna Dickey placed 12th, each shooting 54 in the nine-hole tournament against a field of primarily 6A junior varsity programs.

"They had to battle the heat as well," BLHS coach Bruce Courtney said of the 2 p.m. start time.

The Bobcats placed third behind Shawnee Mission East and Washburn Rural.

The next day, BLHS traveled to Alvamar in Lawrence to compete in Mill Valley's Cat Classic, the Bobcats' first 18-hole tournament of the year.

"Coming off a short night and the heat, I think they wore out quickly," Courtney said after the Bobcats finished fifth out of nine teams.

Lough and Dicky tied for the Bobcats' top score with a pair of 106-shot performances. The Bobcats return to play on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at a Piper-hosted tournament at Dub's Dread in Kansas City, Kan.
