February 28, 2013
Tonganoxie The Basehor-Linwood boys saw their bid for a return to state come to an end Thursday with a 64-53 loss to Sumner Academy in Class 4A sub-state semifinal action at Tonganoxie.
The second-seeded Bobcats (12-9) got to within two possessions after trailing the third-seeded Sabres (11-10) by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter, but the reigning state champions couldn't quite complete the comeback.
Sumner led by four points after one quarter and went in front by six in the final minutes of the first half, but BLHS closed the second quarter on a 7-2 run to get within a point at the break, 26-25. The Sabres seemingly took control when they outscored the Bobcats by a 19-9 margin in the third quarter.

The Sabres will play top-seeded Piper in the sub-state title game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at THS. Piper defeated host school Tonganoxie in Thursday's other semifinal, 68-49.
