BLHS Scholars Bowl team on a roll
The Basehor-Linwood High School Scholars Bowl team has its sights set on state after competing well throughout the fall.
The season is just past the halfway mark and is on track to qualify for state. The Bobcat Brainiacs recently won the Pleasant Ridge meet on Jan. 10 and earned medals in four other meets throughout November and December. The team took second at the De Soto varsity meet, first at the Kansas City-Washington JV meet, third at the Tonganoxie JV meet and third at the Bonner Springs varsity meet.
New coach Tim Johnson and team members hope to win the state championship. The last BLHS team to do so was in 2004.
The team has two returning seniors, Joe Levinson and Maddy Mikinsky.
“Joe and Maddy just took charge of this group and have made them a contender,” Johnson said.
The team will compete in the Kaw Valley League meet and regionals at the end of January. Its next meet is the Maranatha varsity meet Thursday in Shawnee. For more information about the team and its competitions, visit bobcatbrainiacs.weebly.com.
