BLHS wrestling team notches big dual win against Eudora
The Basehor-Linwood wrestling team earned a 67-18 victory against Eudora on Thursday as part of the team’s “Pack the House Night.”
Shayn Morris got things started with a 3-0 decision win against Seth Rafiel. Morris was one of several Bobcats wrestling up a weight class as the team has been hampered by illnesses in recent weeks. Another Bobcat wrestling up a class was James Handke, who made his season debut last week in Paola, pinned Skyler Manly at 182 pounds.
“It shows us they’re willing to go out there and fight and win at any level and any time,” coach Tyler Cordts said.
In his first match back since sitting out a week because of injury, John Hopper picked up another victory after pinning Ross Chumbley.
Zack Carter and Dominic Foster also recorded pins at 195 pounds and 220 pounds, respectively. For Foster, it was his first varsity pin.
“He’s come so far from the kid he was at the beginning of the year.” Cordts said. “That’s what we need is kids like that.”
Cordts said that 47 of Basehor’s kids club youth wrestlers filled their own section at the dual and that after each win, BLHS wrestlers ran over to slap hands.
“They were a rowdy little bunch that got into it,” Cordts said.
Junior Cory McCleary and freshman Charles Moore were also recognized on Thursday for achieving 4.0 grade point averages during the fall semester, Cordts said.
The Bobcats return to competition on Saturday at the Baldwin Invitational Tournament. Stay tuned for the latest results.
