Battle of ranked teams highlights BSHS senior night
A showdown of two of Class 4A’s top-10 wrestling teams will mark Bonner Springs’ senior night when the No. 2 Braves play host to No. 8 Tonganoxie at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Three of the 11 BSHS seniors who will appear in their final home dual enter the evening ranked individually by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. In all, each team is led by four individually ranked wrestlers with junior Josiah Seaton (106 pounds) rounding out the bunch for the Braves.
The meet will also be streamed in its entirety by USD 204 and 810 Varsity. A live broadcast will be shared online at bonnersprings.com. BSHS senior Aaron Puckett will put his 28-0 record at 160 pounds on the line Thursday. So far this season, Puckett was won tournament championships at Lee’s Summit, Basehor-Linwood and Blue Valley Northwest. Puckett, ranked No. 1 in his class and No. 3 in all classes, is a three-time state placer. Fellow senior Jonathan Blackwell is ranked No. 1 in all classes at 152 pounds and is the No. 6-ranked pound-for-pound wrestler in the state.
Senior Justus Seaton enters the meet ranked No. 3 at 113 pounds and will be looking for his 100th career victory on Thursday. Other seniors to be honored on Thursday include Patrick Ballard, Shawn Stirling, Coltin Bulkley, Ryan Minton, Tyler Lentz, Christian Jones, Elliott Nickell and Ben Villegas.
Stirling, Villegas, Ballard, Bulkley and Minton were among the 10 Braves to place in the top 10 of their respective weight classes on Saturday at the Osawatomie Invitational, where a team of mostly junior varsity wrestlers finished fifth overall out of 12 teams.
