Construction of senior living center remains on schedule

July 2, 2013

Adverse weather that pounded Leavenworth County this spring and the newly-found summer heat have done little to delay construction of Basehor’s new senior living facility, set to open its doors in just a few months.

Work on Country Place Senior Living, a 22-suite residence located at 15707 Pinehurst Drive, is moving at a “rapid pace,” according to developer Jack West. The center is scheduled to open on Sept. 15.

Ginny Cross was introduced as the center’s director on May 20. Cross, a member of the Basehor Chamber of Commerce, has more than 14 years of experience with assisted living centers in Kansas, Texas and Hawaii, and she has previously helped with startups of two residences.

“It alleviates a lot of anxiety to my supervisors,” said Cross, who most recently served as director of a similar center in Overland Park. “They know they don’t have to walk me through what to do.”

The Basehor residence will cover 15,000 square feet, making it Country Place’s largest facility. Including the Basehor location, Country Place has 10 buildings in Kansas, Texas and Alabama.

Cross said all Country Place residences follow the same floor plan and are constructed in the shape of an “H.” Living suites occupy either side of the complex, while commons areas such as the kitchen, laundry room and recreational areas are located in the crossbar.

The laundry room will serve as the facility’s storm shelter. The room is constructed of steel and reinforced with concrete and has a concrete slab roof structure.

“It was important to us to design a unique assisted living residence that would provide a home-like residential environment while allowing us to safely shelter our residents during life-threatening storms,” West said.

In addition to permanent living, the residence will offer adult day services and respite care. Cross said there are already two founder club members signed up to live in the facility.

Staff will handle a variety of daily tasks, including laundry, basic housekeeping and transportation to and from events both inside and outside the complex. Medication management, dressing, grooming and bathing will be available if necessary. Additionally, a licensed practical nurse will be in the building 40 hours a week and on-call at all times.
