Kara Stephens scored one goal in each half, but the Basehor-Linwood girls soccer team dropped a 6-2 decision Wednesday against Kaw Valley League rival Tonganoxie.

The Chieftains grabbed an early 2-0 lead when Emily Soetaert scored twice in the first half. Stephens cut the lead in half with a goal of her own midway through the period, and a back-and-forth battle ensued. Neither team scored again before the break.

Playing with a strong wind at its back in the second half, THS reeled off three quick goals to go in front, 5-1. Mackenzie Price scored twice in the opening minutes of the half — both off assists from Soetaert — and Morgan Galvin put another Soetaert pass into the net with less than 30 minutes remaining.

The Bobcats got one goal back when Stephens scored again roughly 10 minutes later, but Tonganoxie's Molly Welsh answered the goal when she scored off a deflection in the final minutes.

BLHS will try to get back in the win column when it hosts Harmon at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
