Prescription drug take back program
The Basehor Community Library is teaming with the Drug Enforcement Agency to hold a prescription drug take back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26.
Data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that nearly one-third of people aged 12 and over who used drugs for the first time in 2009 began by using a prescription drug non-medically. Improperly disposal of such medications can harm the environment and sewage treatment plants may not be able to clean all medicines out of the water, according to national studies.
The library is asking Basehor residents to bring their unneeded prescriptions or over-the-counter medications to the library for safe, responsible destruction in this DEA sponsored take back program. All medications will be accepted, human or veterinary.
