Sub-state basketball brackets released
Brackets for next week's sub-state basketball tournaments were released Wednesday by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
Basehor-Linwood and Tonganoxie are in the same Class 4A-1 regional with Atchison and Piper. All games will be played at BLHS. The Bobcat boys are the top seed in their tournament, while the girls are No. 2. Both Tonganoxie teams are seeded fourth.
Girls semifinal games will be played Thursday, March 6, starting with No. 1 Piper (16-3) against No. 4 Tonganoxie (9-10). BLHS (13-6) will play No. 3 Atchison (12-7) immediately following the first semifinal.
Boys semifinal games will begin at the same times Friday, March 7. No. 2 Piper (14-5) will open against No. 3 Atchison (11-8), and Basehor-Linwood (16-3) will follow against Tonganoxie (9-10).
Both championship games will take place Saturday, March 8. The girls game will tip at 6 p.m. and the boys game will immediately follow. Winners of each tournament will advance to the state tournament, set for March 12-15 in Salina.
McLouth is in a 2A sub-state hosted by Valley Falls, but in the eight-team format, quarterfinal games are hosted by the higher-seeded team. The MHS girls (5-14) are seeded seventh and will play at No. 2 Valley Falls (14-5) at 7 p.m. Monday. If the Bulldogs win, they'll play either No. 3 Maranatha Academy or No. 6 Jackson Heights on Thursday at VFHS.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog boys (10-9) are the No. 5 seed and will play at No. 4 Troy (12-9) at the same time Tuesday. If they win, they'll play either No. 1 Valley Falls or No. 8 Leavenworth-Immaculata in Thursday's semifinal action at VFHS.
Winners of 2A sub-state tournaments will play in the state tournament March 12-15 in Manhattan.
