Leavenworth County Fair next week in Tonganoxie

The Leavenworth County Fairgrounds will be bustling next week.

Opening ceremonies for this year’s Leavenworth County Fair will be Tuesday at the fairgrounds. The parade will be 6:30 p.m. and the Al Dyer Memorial Draft Horse Pull at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Armband nights will be Wednesday, July 30, and Thursday, July 31. The Hot Rod Garden Tractor Show will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, and the open horse show 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31.

Highlights on Friday include Senior Day at the Fair from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and the pie baking judging at 1 p.m. (Entries will be accepted from noon-1 p.m.). The mud run will start at 6:30 p.m. and the 49th annual 4-H/FFA Livestock Auction will start at 7 p.m. and Bluegrass band The Fairmounters will perform at 8 p.m.

And on Saturday, Aug. 2, the Ag Olympics wil start at 10 a.m., turtle races at 1 p.m., youth tractor pull at 3 p.m. and youth dance at 6:30 p.m.

The main event the final night of the fair will be the demolition derby, which will have a monster truck freestyle exhibition. Chances will be sold at the fair to youths 12 and younger for the opportunity to ride in a monster truck. Prices are $1 per chance or $5 per six chances.

The Leavenworth County Fair continues to push toward 90 years of existence. The first fair was in 1926.
