BLHS lands four on All-State softball team
Four Basehor-Linwood softball players have earned spots on the Class 4A All-State roster, released earlier this week by the Kansas Softball Coaches Association.
Junior catcher Gaby Brown earned the Bobcats' only first-team selection, while junior pitcher Madison McDowell, senior outfielder Katie Lackner and senior infielder Allison Kasick received second-team honors.
Brown was near the top of the BLHS lineup in several offensive categories. She hit. 467 with 18 runs batted in and 24 runs scored, and she finished second on the team with .623 on-base percentage. She was also an asset on defense, finishing with zero errors behind the plate. The All-State recognition is the first of her career.
McDowell joins Brown as a first-time All-Stater. She went 10-1 in the circle with a 1.51 earned run average this spring, striking out 49 hitters and walking just eight in 65 innings. She was also arguably the Bobcats' top hitter, leading the team with a .481 average and .685 on-base percentage.
Kasick and Lackner, who will both play next season at Highland Community College, earned their second straight All-State selections. Kasick, the Bobcats' regular first baseman, hit .464 with 32 RBI, three home runs and 24 runs scored in her final high school season. Meanwhile, Lackner, the team's starting center fielder, hit .412 with 19 RBI, two homers and 23 runs. Both seniors were first-team picks in 2013.
BLHS went 17-5 this season, missing the 4A-I state tournament by just one game. They won their third Kaw Valley League title in four years, going 12-2 in league play.
