Smith signs with USM basketball program
After one of the most successful basketball seasons in Basehor-Linwood history, Victoria Smith has secured herself a spot in the collegiate ranks.
Smith recently signed a national letter of intent with the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth. The signing comes after she led the team in scoring in nearly every game of the Bobcats' 14-8 campaign that ended just two points short of a state bid.
A four-year varsity letterwinner, Smith quickly established herself as one of the Kaw Valley League's top post players in 2013-14. She averaged 15.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest on her way to an All-KVL first-team selection.
She was at her best at the end of the year, scoring a career-high 33 in a sub-state semifinal game against Atchison. Her 337 total points this season mark the fifth-highest individual scoring output in program history.
Smith joins a USM team coached by Bruce Erickson. The Spires went 4-23 in Erickson's first season, including a 3-15 mark in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
