Track and field athletes shine at Bobcat Relays
Several local track and field athletes produced successful showings at the Bobcats Relays on Friday at Basehor-Linwood High School.
The Basehor-Linwood girls won the meet with a total of 194 points. Bonner Springs took seventh with 39 points. The Bonner Springs boys took second, finishing with 109 points, and Basehor-Linwood took fourth with 97.5 points.
The Basehor-Linwood girls totaled seven first-place finishes at their home meet, including Marriah Clayton in the 100-meter dash (13.04), Quinnlyn Walcott in the 800-meter run (2:25.71), Madison Howard in the pole vault (7-11.75), Sierra Smith in the triple jump (34-10.50) and Katey Trower in the javelin (115-05.75) and shot put (36-00.00). The Lady Bobcats also took first place in the 4x100-meter relay (51.26).
Individual second-place finishers for Basehor-Linwood included Walcott in the 3,200-meter run (12:43.68) and Smith in the long jump (15-07.75). Basehor-Linwood also took second place in the 4x100-meter throwers relay (1:03.74) and the 4x800-meter relay (10:40.84).
The Lady Bobcats took third place in the 4x400-meter relay (4:27.17). Individual third-place finishers included Rylea Oliver in the 3,200-meter run (12:45.13) and Emily Vitt in the discus (89-10.00).
Bonner Springs’ Jonita Francis led the way for the Lady Braves, taking first place in the 200-meter dash (27.16) and second place in the 100-meter dash (13.22). Cassandra Beattie took second place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.26), and Shaunie Lanning took third place in the javelin (92-11.00).
Hunter Taylor led the way for the Basehor-Linwood boys, taking first place in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles (16.48, 42.40). Connor Smith claimed the Bobcats’ other first-place finish by winning the pole vault (11-00.00).
Basehor-Linwood’s 4x800-meter relay team took second place with a time of 9:01.26, and the Bobcats’ 4x100-meter throwers relay and 4x400-meter relay teams took third with times of 53.05 and 3:44.84, respectively. Chet Sarlls took third in the pole vault with a mark of 41-01.75.
Individual first-place finishers for Bonner Springs included Jonah Freese in the long jump (20-09.25) and Jacob Freese in the shot put (41-09.50). The Braves’ 4x100-meter relay team also took first with a time of 44.62.
Second-place finishers for Bonner Springs included Marcel Holmes in the 100-meter dash (11.43) and Jacob Dobbs in the discus (132-07.00). Third-place finishers included Michael Amayo in the long jump (20-03.75), Preston Pyles in the shot put (41-01.75) and Jonah Freese in the triple jump (40-00.00). The Braves’ 4x800-meter relay team also took third with a time of 9:06.57.
