Basehor The Basehor-Linwood boys continued their regular-season excellence Friday night by methodically marching past Topeka Hayden 64-36 at home.
The Bobcats (2-0) haven’t lost a regular season game since the 2013-14 season. They started the 2015-16 season with a rout of Kaw Valley League rival Bonner Springs last week.
Hayden stayed close in the first half, but Basehor-Linwood outscored the Wildcats 12-4 to open the third quarter and take a 43-28 lead. The Bobcats stayed in control the rest of the way, holding Hayden to one point in the opening 5:40 of the fourth quarter.
Seniors Ben Hazel and Jack Dale led Basehor-Linwood with 11 points each. Seniors Brock Gilliam and Nick Fisher each added 10 points as nine Bobcats scored in a balanced effort.
Senior Jahron McPherson added seven points. His 3-pointer gave the Bobcats the lead for good late in the first quarter, and his steal on the next Hayden possession led to a Gilliam layup and a 15-12 lead heading into the second quarter.
Freshman Zach Harvey’s 10 points led Hayden. He scored nine of those in the first half, as did sophomore Jett Canfield, which helped Hayden get within four points late in the half.
But Harvey fought foul problems all night before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter after Basehor-Linwood had put the game out of reach.
Hayden girls 57, BLHS 22

Freshman Preston Reid led the Wildcats with 21 points. She scored seven in the first quarter as Hayden jumped out to a 14-0 lead.
Bobcat senior Jenna Mussett scored her team’s first points with a turnaround jumper with 6:40 left in the second quarter, but Hayden kept up the pressure both on defense and on the offensive boards. The Wildcats extended their lead to 30-8 at the half and 48-16 after three quarters.
Seniors Ryann Smith and Madison Bergman scored six points each for Basehor-Linwood (0-2). Senior Jordan Lenherr added 13 points for Hayden.
