Basehor Three quarters of stingy defense couldn’t make up for Basehor-Linwood’s slow start as the Lady Bobcats fell to Lansing 36-25 on Friday night.
After falling behind 23-6 in the second quarter, Basehor-Linwood held Lansing to six points over the next 12:25 and trailed 29-23 with 3:24 remaining after Madison Sibert made two free throws.
The Lady Bobcats had chances to get even closer, but they couldn’t convert, and Lansing made 5 of 6 free throws in the game’s final minutes.
Sibert and Alexis Nichols led Basehor-Linwood (6-12, 5-7 in Kaw Valley League play) with five points each, all coming in the second half. Nichols’ 3-pointer that beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter gave the Lady Bobcats a boost heading into the final quarter.
Lansing’s Kija Cammock scored all nine of her points in the first half. Maya Cooper also had nine points for the Lady Lions (11-7, 9-3), who remained in a three-way tie for second place in the league.
Basehor-Linwood will play its Senior Night game on Tuesday against Turner.
