Dairy Days announces parking changes due to rain
Due to all the heavy rains in the past few days, Basehor Dairy Days has announced it will not allow parking at the City Park, where conditions are too muddy.
Organizers say all vehicles should park either at the Basehor Elementary School, Holy Angels Church or the Basehor Intermediate School.
Shuttle service will begin at 6:15 a.m. for Crazy Cow 5k participants. Participants are asked to plan ahead to arrive by race time at 7:30 a.m.
Shuttle buses will take festival goers to the park and return them to the parking lots. Signs will be placed on 155th Street to direct traffic to parking areas.
This year, the local festival celebrating Basehor’s dairy farming history will again begin with the Crazy Cow 5k Run/Walk at 7:30 a.m. and a Chris Cakes Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
In the park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will find inflatables, a cow milking machine, toddler playground, pony rides, craft vendors, Milk Cans on Parade, carnival games, a petting zoo and the Kansas Lions Mobile Health Screening Unit.
Food vendors will offer brisket, ice cream, root beer floats, cotton candy, turkey legs, corn dogs, funnel cakes, chili fries, kettle corn, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and complimentary Hiland Dairy products.
The Friends of the Library again will host a pie baking contest, in which participants can drop off their pie with a $5 entry fee at the Friends’ booth from 8 to 10 a.m. About 11 a.m., winners will be announced, and the pie will be sold by the slice.
Performances are as follows:
• White Tiger Martial Arts, 10-11 a.m.
• Shriner’s Clowns and Balloon Characters, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
• Gunsmoke & Petticoates Old West Show, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
• Sarah’s Studio of Dance, 12 p.m.
