Basehor-Linwood wrestlers take sixth at state
The Basehor-Linwood wrestlers took sixth place as a team at the KSHSAA Class 4A state championships in Salina on Saturday, led by gold medal winner Jon Trowbridge.
The Bobcats scored a total of 70 points and were preceded by champion Baldwin (113), Chanute (105), Holton (87), Abilene (85) and El Dorado (78.5).
Trowbridge, a freshman, defeated Abilene’s Zach Baugh in the finals of the 126-pound division, winning the state title by fall at the 3:14 mark. He finished his first high school season with a 39-4 record.
Basehor-Linwood also captured a pair of silver medals with freshman Cody Phippen (37-3) and sophomore Corbin Nirschl (34-2) taking second in the 106- and 120-pound divisions, respectively.
Phippen lost a 3-2 tie breaker to Pratt’s Dylan Pelland in the finals, and Nirschl lost a 9-7 decision to Sumner Academy’s Emmanuel Browne in his championships match.
