Basehor, Bonner schools to close for Royals parade
November 2, 2015
Bonner Springs-Edwardsville USD 204 announced at noon that it would join several other metropolitan school districts in canceling school tomorrow in light of the Kansas City Royals' victory in the World Series.
Basehor-Linwood USD 458 schools were added to the list an hour later, with Superintendent David Howard sending out an official tweet: "It's official! Basehor-Linwood has cancelled school for Tuesday, November 3. A Skylert message to all parents is on its way."
A message sent to parents in Bonner Springs notes that there was a concern that, as thousands around the metro attend a victory parade planned Tuesday, "a lack of substitute teachers and a high number of student absences would make it difficult for our schools to provide quality instruction."
"We encourage students and staff to enjoy tomorrow's festivities," the message continues.
School will be held as usual for the rest of the week beginning Wednesday.
The parade is set to start at noon on the west side of the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., making its way through the downtown area to a 2 p.m. Rally at Union Station.
