BLHS, BSHS compete at KVL Championships

The Basehor-Linwood and Bonner Springs cross country programs competed at the Kaw Valley League Championships on Thursday evening at Shawnee Mission Park.

The BLHS girls led the way with a third-place team finish. The Lady Bobcats finished with a team score of 87. They were preceded in the team standings by Mill Valley (28) and Lansing (38). Tonganoxie (87), Turner (145) and Bonner Springs (160) rounded out the field.

BLHS was led by freshman Alyssa Richardson, who took 11th place with a time of 20:51.78. Sophomore Rylea Oliver (13th, 21:27.12), sophomore Julia Suarez (16th, 21:49.18), sophomore Bailey Storms (23rd, 22:32.75) and senior Rachel Tindell (24th, 22:42.43) rounded out the Lady Bobcats’ point scorers.

The Bonner Springs girls were led by freshman Shara Ziegler, who took 28th place with a time of 24:03.68. Freshman Grace Tsen (29th, 24:08.24), senior Kennedy Bacon (32nd, 24:29.88), sophomore Hope Seaton (35th, 24:37.90) and freshman Nicole Ashford (39th, 25:53.76) rounded out the Lady Braves’ point scorers.

On the boys side, BLHS finished fourth (93), and BSHS took fifth (121). Mill Valley (20), Tonganoxie (57) and Lansing (72) finished first through third, respectively.

The Bobcats were led by senior Bevin Coon, who took eighth place with a time of 17:23.34. Junior Joe Ruffcorn (14th, 17:39.68), freshman Brady Myers (23rd, 18:35.06), senior Aden Shorney (24th, 18:44.80), senior Tyler Miller (32nd, 19:30.68) and freshman Sterling Hollond (33rd, 19:35.34) rounded out the BLHS competitors.

Bonner Springs was led by senior Robert Crowley, who took 21st place with a time of 18:24.15. Sophomore Ryan Villareal (25th, 18:45.12), junior Alex White (26th, 18:51.87), senior Riley Ballou-Lyngstad (30th, 19:19.24) freshman Kaleb Wilson (31st, 19:25.78), freshman Blake Best (34th, 19:37.83) and senior Isaac Bolton (36th, 19:58.52) rounded out the Braves’ competitors.
