SM North dominates Bonner Springs Invitational
The Shawnee Mission North cross country program continued its winning ways on Saturday morning at Wyandotte County Park, as both the girls and boys teams took first place at the Bonner Springs Invitational.
The SM North boys came away with a 14-point victory over the rest of the field with a team score of 60. Blue Valley Southwest (74), Mill Valley (79), Leavenworth (137) and Topeka Seaman (172) rounded out the top five.
St. James Academy (192) took sixth, Maranatha Christian Academy (237) finished ninth, De Soto (298) was 10th, Basehor-Linwood (358) took 13th, and Bonner Springs (514) finished 18th.
The Indians were led by individual champion Beliste Akalu (15:29.22), who has now won all three races he’s competed in this season. Noah Stevenson (fifth place, 16:35.59), Alex Akalu (seventh, 16:40.69), Joseph Coddington (23rd, 17:12.64) and Luke Kasunic (24th, 17:14.29) rounded out the SM North point scorers.
Mill Valley was led by Garret Fields (16:46.95), who took 10th place. Derek Meeks (13th, 16:52.42), Justin Grega (16th, 16:59.78), Max Jones (19th, 17:05.17) and Tyler Coad (21st, 17:10.43).
St. James was led by Daniel LaPlante (17:19.27), who finished 27th. Erik Wilkinson (32nd, 17:24.46), Matt Kipper (38th, 17:40.11), Jack Moore (42nd, 17:43.23) and Ben Huerter (59th, 18:06.24) rounded out the Thunder’s point scorers.
Maranatha’s C.J. Shiner (20th, 17:09.27), De Soto’s Carter Jacobson (35th, 17:31.78), Basehor-Linwood’s Bevin Coon (31st, 17:23.62) and Bonner Springs’ Bobby Crowley (89th, 18:55.90) all led their respective teams.
The SM North girls captured a 16-point victory over the rest of the field with a team score of 60. Blue Valley Southwest (76), Mill Valley (91), Lansing (102) and St. James Academy (141) rounded out the top five.
De Soto (226) finished eighth, Basehor-Linwood (234) took ninth, Maranatha Christian Academy (259) was 10th, and Bonner Springs (420) finished 16th.
The Lady Indians were led by a pair of top-10 finishers: Amber Reed (fifth place, 19:37.69) and Samantha Taylor (sixth, 19:38.99). Katie Kasunic (14th, 20:17.87), Molly Ryan (17th, 20:27.87) and Cassie Raines (31st, 21:09.26) rounded out the SM North point scorers.
Mill Valley was led by Ellie Wilson, who finished 12th (20:15.47). Delaney Kemp (21st, 20:34.97), Amber Akin (24th, 20:38.55), Anna Clayborn (25th, 20:47.09) and Britton Nelson (26th, 20:48.42) rounded out the Lady Jaguars’ point scorers.
St. James was led by second-place finisher Gabrielle Boucher (19:17.86). Judi Jones (11th, 20:09.59), Jilli Jones (27th, 20:58.33), Sarah LaPlante (53rd, 22:05.94) and Claire Smrt (74th, 23:01.22) rounded out the St. James point scorers.
De Soto’s Gabby Collins (10th, 20:08.13), Basehor-Linwood’s Rhylea Oliver (28th, 21:02.80), Maranatha’s Talia Morrow (42nd, 21:38.54) and Bonner Springs’ Shara Ziegler (80th, 23:17.94) all led their respective teams.
