Christian group plans golf tournament fundraiser

As spring weather creeps in, area golfers are chomping at the bit to get out and golf. But they won’t have to wait much longer because the Young Life Kaw Valley has scheduled its Second Annual Golf Tournament for Friday, April 17, at Dub’s Dread Golf Club.
Shut-in Sunday marks holiday

On Sunday, Dec. 7, more than 120 Salvation Army volunteers will deliver Christmas gifts to nearly 700 homebound, elderly or disabled individuals in the Kansas City metropolitan area, in an annual event known as “Shut-In Sunday.”

In many ways, it’s a typical morning for any Baker University student. Greg Rogers has no classes on Thursdays, but he’s still out the door of his Zeta Chi fraternity house at 9:30 a.m. He’s off to a morning piano lesson, a chapel service and a lunch with friends after the service.

The preparation is the same every year for the missionaries of the Basehor United Methodist Church - fundraising and collecting donations, packing tools, donated clothes, personal belongings and food into trucks and trailers, then making the more than 500-mile trek to Fort Thompson, S.D., to help the residents on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation.
