Baldwin holds off Basehor for 21-19 season-opening victory

Baldwin’s defense made a big fourth down stop at midfield with 42 seconds remaining, preserving a season-opening 21-19 victory against visiting Basehor-Linwood. The fourth down stop at Baldwin’s 41 yard line came after the Bobcats moved the ball from its own 13 yard line to the Baldwin 35 behind the passing of junior quarterback Justin Phillips. The drive lost momentum, however, when Basehor was flagged for holding on second-and-10 from the Baldwin 42 and then picked up an illegal procedure call on fourth-and-2 to set up the fourth-down play.

With a senior-laden roster and plenty of varsity experience, Basehor-Linwood volleyball coach Amy Irvin certainly had high expectations for her team when the season began. Now eight matches into the schedule, Irvin is pleased with how her girls have performed, especially on Tuesday evening when the Lady Bobcats defeated Bonner Springs, Eudora and Baldwin on their home court.
