Several area boys and girls high school basketball players were selected to represent the Kaw Valley League in a pair of KVL vs. KCAL all-star games later this month.

The Kaw Valley League was well-represented on both the boys and girls side at the state tournament level. Mill Valley’s second-place finish was the highest among all league girls teams and Tonganoxie was surprise entrant to the Class 4A field after upsetting Bonner Springs in the sub-state semifinals.

It didn’t take long for the All-Kaw Valley League teams to be announced after the conclusion of high school basketball season. Mill Valley, Lansing and Piper are well-represented after state tournament runs, but Basehor-Linwood and Bonner Spring also landed multiple players on the year-end list.

The Bonner Springs boys shrunk a 16-point deficit to four in the second half, but couldn’t quite cap off the comeback in a 65-56 loss Wednesday in sub-state first-round action at Tonganoxie.

Monday and Tuesday’s sub-state basketball games at Tonganoxie High have both been rescheduled for Wednesday due to impending inclement weather. The THS girls will play host to Sumner Academy at 5 p.m., and the boys will immediately follow against Bonner Springs.
