The third quarter has caused all kinds of trouble for the Basehor-Linwood girls basketball team this season. But the Lady Bobcats (2-5 overall, 2-3 Kaw Valley League) flipped the script Friday night against Bishop Ward, outscoring the host Cyclones 15-3 in the third quarter before cruising to a 52-38 victory.

Basehor-Linwood and Tonganoxie each entered Thursday night’s game looking for its first victory of the season and momentum heading into the holiday break after playing many of the best teams in Class 4A. By the end of the night, it was the Lady Bobcats who gave themselves a much-needed boost by defeating Tonganoxie 56-28 in both teams’ final game of 2014.

Basehor-Linwood girls come up short in first home game

Sumner Academy fought through extensive foul trouble and fought back from a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat the Basehor-Linwood girls 45-44 Tuesday night in the Lady Bobcats’ home opener. Basehor-Linwood took a 28-18 lead early in the third quarter, but Sumner answered with a 16-3 run fueled by layups and rebound baskets. The Sabers took the lead back with 2 minutes remaining in the quarter and led 36-33 heading into the final quarter. That was the biggest gap between the two teams until the Sabers stretched the lead to four points with 16 seconds remaining.
Bobcat girls hoping to continue progress

Last season, the Basehor-Linwood High girls doubled their win total in coach Jason Tatkenhorst’s second year. The Bobcats lose two All-Kaw Valley League performers and a significant chunk of their scoring this winter, but they’re determined to keep the progress rolling.
