- The first horn that sounded in the first race of Saturday’s Sunflower Showdown rowing regatta signaled victory for a Kansas University team piloted by a 5-foot freshman who, until last fall, hadn’t competed in a sport not involving a ball or bat.

- In just its second year, James Gallet’s Bobcat Wrestling Club has become one of the state’s biggest youth wrestling clubs.
This season, the team has grown from about 60 wrestlers to 80 wrestlers from ages four through high school.

Mill Valley’s second-place finish was the highest among all league girls teams and Tonganoxie was surprise entrant to the Class 4A field after upsetting Bonner Springs in the sub-state semifinals.
