BLHS softball opens season with split against Mill Valley

After being dealt a 6-1 opening loss by Mill Valley, the Basehor-Linwood softball team managed a split of Tuesday’s season-opening doubleheader behind a three-hit complete-game performance by sophomore pitcher Asia Larsen.

The first horn that sounded in the first race of Saturday’s Sunflower Showdown rowing regatta signaled victory for a Kansas University team piloted by a 5-foot freshman who, until last fall, hadn’t competed in a sport not involving a ball or bat.
Bobcat kids club sending five to weekend state tournament

In just its second year, James Gallet’s Bobcat Wrestling Club has become one of the state’s biggest youth wrestling clubs. This season, the team has grown from about 60 wrestlers to 80 wrestlers from ages four through high school.

Every outdoor high school spring sporting event slated to serve as the respective season-openers for Basehor-Linwood and Bonner Springs programs was either postponed or cancelled the first two days of the week, with Wednesday’s BLHS girls soccer game in Baldwin questionable at press time.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association unveiled its regional assignments for boys tennis and boys golf this week.

Several area boys and girls high school basketball players were selected to represent the Kaw Valley League in a pair of KVL vs. KCAL all-star games later this month.

The Kaw Valley League was well-represented on both the boys and girls side at the state tournament level. Mill Valley’s second-place finish was the highest among all league girls teams and Tonganoxie was surprise entrant to the Class 4A field after upsetting Bonner Springs in the sub-state semifinals.

It didn’t take long for the All-Kaw Valley League teams to be announced after the conclusion of high school basketball season. Mill Valley, Lansing and Piper are well-represented after state tournament runs, but Basehor-Linwood and Bonner Spring also landed multiple players on the year-end list.
