Joanne O'Brien 1931 - 2008 Bonner Springs

Funeral Mass for Joanne O'Brien, 77, of Bonner Springs, will be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Johnson Drive and Monticello Road, in Shawnee. Private burial will follow.
Mrs. O'Brien died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam.
Mrs. O'Brien was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan., and had been a lifelong area resident. She had worked for many years in nursing, and more recently has enjoyed spending time with her friends at the YMCA. She has always enjoyed participating in her many civic activities.
Her first husband, Albert Geary, died in 1959; her second husband, John S. O'Brien, died in 1967.
Survivors include five children, Barbara Ann O'Brien, Boston, Susan Sprung, Washington D.C., Patricia Gast, Colorado Springs, Colo., Charles O'Brien Pittsburgh, and John O'Brien, Overland Park; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Sedgwick, De Soto; and two sisters, Rae Sedgwick, Bonner Springs, and Barbara Dobbe, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
The family will receive friends at the visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the church, where a Rosary Service will be at 7 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
