William M. Claxton, "Mr. Bill," died Feb 10, 2008, at home in Bonner Springs.
He was born June 11, 1920 in Hartville, Mo. He resided at Lake Forest until 1979 when he moved to Florida. He returned to Bonner Springs in 2005. He was a marketing executive, retiring from Dynacolor Graphics in Miami.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the invasion at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, and earned several medals including the Purple Heart. He received dual degrees from the University of Missouri at Columbia. He was a basketball enthusiast, and volunteered 26 years coaching youth basketball and water safety at the South Broward, Fla., YMCA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo "Bunny" Claxton, in 2005. He is survived by two sons, John Claxton of Bonner Springs; and Mark Claxton of Morrisville, N.C.; a daughter, Jennifer Loeb, Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Services will also be held at St. James in-the-Hills Episcopal Church in Hollywood, Fla., followed by inurnment. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church Building Fund c/o the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St. Bonner Springs KS. 66012. 913-422-4074.
