Funeral services for Daniel (Dan) C. Murphy Sr., 91, of Bonner Springs, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, Basehor.
Mr. Murphy died Monday, May 12, 2008, at his home.
He was born Jan. 21, 1917, on the farm near Bonner Springs that was originally homesteaded by his grandfather, John Murphy Sr. in 1865. He spent his entire life farming, operating a dairy farm until 1985. He continued with a cattle farm. He attended Glenwood grade school and graduated from Tonganoxie Rural High School in 1934. He married Blanche Klamet on September 16, 1946 at Sacred Heart Church in Bonner Springs. She survives of the home.
He is also survived by his three sons, Daniel Murphy Jr., Des Moines, Iowa, Richard Murphy, Bonner Springs, Jim Murphy, Centennial, Colo; four daughters, Janet Turini, Kingswood, Texas, Marilyn Sullivan, Wuerzburg, Germany, Carol Westfall, Auburn, Norene Ryks, Bellevue, Neb.; his sister, Helen Murphy, Kansas City, Kan; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Quisenberry Funeral Home where the Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Angels Catholic Church Building Fund or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O.
