Donald Jesmer Sr. 1919 - 2007

Mass of Christian Burial for retired Master Sgt. Donald Jesmer Sr., 88, of Leavenworth, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mr. Jesmer died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at Kansas City Veterans Affairs Hospital.
He was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Adams, N.Y., the son of Theron and Marion (Hancock) Jesmer.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II and Korea. He was awarded the Purple Heart after he was wounded in the Korean conflict. Mr. Jesmer retired with 21 years of service. After retirement he worked at the Leavenworth VA for 15 years.
He was a member of Saint Casimir Men's Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was the past commander of Disabled American Veterans.
He married Elizabeth Shea in March of 1941, and she preceded him in death.
On Oct. 12, 1985, he married Dianna Trail; she survives at the home.
Other survivors include a son, Donald Jr., Leavenworth; two daughters, Eileen Jesmer, Leavenworth, and Elizabeth Neal, Lansing; and a stepson, Kyle Trail, Lee's Summit, Mo.
A daughter, Frances, died at birth.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 6, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, Leavenworth.
