Albert Frank Wiard, 83, of Wellsville, Kan., died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at the Olathe Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Lewis D. and Emma Florence (Herster) Wiard. He grew up and attended schools in Bonner Springs and graduated from Bonner Springs High School.
On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Betty Lou Harman in Bonner Springs. They shared more than 60 years of marriage before she died on Aug. 22, 2007.

Mr. Wiard was a carpenter most of his life throughout the Spring Hill, Gardner and Ottawa areas. He took much pride in his work of refurbishing the artifacts for the Ottawa Old Depot Museum and the Carnegie Hall Library in Ottawa. His other passion was farming more than 160 acres. He loved farming and could be found working his ground, raising hogs, tending his prized garden or fishing with his grandchildren. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

The Wiards resided in Wellsville the last few years to be closer to their children.

He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 366 in Bonner Springs. He was also a volunteer fireman in Bonner Springs and Spring Hill and served as the assistant fire chief for many years.

Mr. Wiard is survived by one son, Daniel A. Wiard of Wellsville; three daughters, Linda Samsel of Wellsville; Janet Sessions of Wellsville and Melanie Jaklevich of Spring Hill; nine grandchildren, Troy, Lisa, Erica, Erin, Amber, Drew, Greg, Sean and Nathan; and nine great-grandchildren, Gage, Tyler, Brianna, Sterling, Holly, Emma, Danielle, Scott and Will.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty; and one brother, Paul Wiard.

Services will be at noon12 Wednesday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa, Kansas. Interment will follow to the Wellsville Cemetery in Wellsville, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 10-12 p.m.Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Albert F.
