Donald F.W. Saving 1917 - 2008 Tonganoxie
Services for Donald F. W. Saving, Sr., 91, of Tonganoxie, formerly of Bonner Springs, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Bonner Springs. Burial will be in Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Saving died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, while in the company of family members at Tonganoxie Nursing Center, Tonganoxie.
He was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Iuka, Kan., and moved to this area in 1958. He worked for many years for Bonner Springs Unified School District 204 retiring in 1979. He was a founding member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, where he had been active and held many offices. He was a Boy Scout Leader for many years.
His first wife, Anna Saving, died in 1981; a daughter, Anna Irene Saving, died as an infant in 1943; and a son, Donald Saving Jr., died in 1989.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years Dorothy Saving, of the home; five sons, Peter, Dallas, Texas, Robert, Topeka, Eugene, Basehor, Fredrick, Bonner Springs, and Phillip, Kansas City; two daughters, Diana Woods, Bonner Springs, and Nedra Ellsworth, Liberty, Mo.; a brother, Vernie Saving, Warsaw, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; five stepchildren Linda Hylton, De Soto, Kathy Davoren, Basehor, and Paul Porth, Vickie White and Jeanine Bush, all of Bonner Springs; 11 stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the visitation from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church, sent in care of the funeral home, 214 Oak St. Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
