Ruby M. Wiley 1925 - 2008 Basehor

Services for Ruby Marie Wiley, 83, of Basehor, were Saturday, Nov. 1, at Basehor United Methodist Church. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Wiley died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at her home.
Born in Taylor County, Iowa, on March 5, 1925, Mrs. Wiley started her teaching career at a rural one-room school where she taught all grades. She graduated from the Corning (Iowa) High School normal training program. Her interest in education continued throughout her life and led to her work in the Basehor Elementary School Cafeteria while her children were in school and to teaching in a private preschool. Ultimately, in her retirement years, she volunteered at the Basehor Elementary School reading program.
Following employment at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant, she worked at Mobil Oil Co. where she retired in 1987.
A travel enthusiast, she and her husband, Harold, who died in 1992, made many trips together. They also enjoyed square dancing and a camping group. After his death, Mrs. Wiley continued to travel and became an active volunteer as a member of Gold Pride and at Basehor Methodist Church, where she was a member for 55 years and participated in the United Methodist Women. She also taught Sunday School.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Stover, San Antonio, Sheila Bailey, Lansing, Linda Wiley, Kansas City, Kan., and Cheryl Breuer, Basehor; a sister, Bernita Starks, Arlington, Va.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Basehor United Methodist Church and expresses special thanks to the professionals at Vitas Hospice Care for their caring service.
