Mary Carolyn Jancich 1923 - 2008 Shawnee

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Carolyn Jancich, 85, of Shawnee, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Basehor. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery near Basehor.
Mrs. Jancich died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam.
She was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Kansas City, Kan., and was a lifetime area resident.
Mrs. Jancich worked as a secretary for Santa Fe Railway for 17 years, retiring to raise her family. She was involved in her children’s activities, including being a Camp Fire leader and a Boy Scouts committee chairman. Later she also enjoyed volunteering at her church and at St. Mary’s Food Kitchen. She loved knitting Afghans and making quilts for her family.
Her husband of 37 years, Stephen F. Jancich Sr., died in 1988.
Survivors include three children, Mary K. Jancich and Ann M. Thornton, both of Shawnee, and Stephen F. Jancich Jr., Herndon, Va.; a brother, Eugene Orth, Kansas City, Kan., and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m, Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the visitation at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, where there will be a Rosary service at 7 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Holy Angels Catholic Church Building Fund, sent in care of the funeral home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
