Everett R. (Spike) Meyer 1920 - 2009
Basehor — Services for Everett R. (Spike) Meyer, 89, Basehor, were Tuesday, June 30, at Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lansing.
Mr. Meyer died Friday, June 27, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Feb. 12, 1920, near Basehor.
Mr. Meyer attended Basehor schools and Kansas State University. He was in the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II, spending 38 months in the South Pacific.
Mr. Meyer and his two brothers, Ivan (Swede) and Marvin, owned Meyer Dairy in Basehor until they sold it in 1975.
Mr. Meyer was a founding member of Leavenworth Country Club and was on the board of directors for Manufacturer’s State Bank and Cushing Hospital.
He married Helen M. Shawger on Dec. 7, 1963. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include three children, Mark, Westerville, Ohio, Vickie Bach, Lansing, and Sharon Beck, Houston; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin and Allen Meyer; a sister, June Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
