Linda G. Riley 1942 - 2009
Kansas City, Kan. — Graveside services for Linda G. Riley, 66, Kansas City, Kan., were Saturday, July 11, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Riley died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at her home after a long illness with heart failure.
She was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Robert Charles and Mildred Alice (Stevens) Sewell. She was a lifelong area resident and a past member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Riley managed Eaton’s Restaurant in the 1960s, before working at Cooks Grocery Store, where she was head cashier and steward for the Retail Clerk’s Union. She was a police dispatcher for the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department for more than 10 years, leaving in 1978 to become a real estate agent for Century 21 Parkway.
She enjoyed any kind of sewing, especially quilting and crocheting. She also loved collecting items, dolls, bears, cookbooks, coins and especially cookie jars, of which she had more than 600.
Survivors include her husband, Loyd D. Holt, of the home; two sons, Billy Ross Davenport Jr. and wife, Mary, Kansas City, Kan., and David Lee Davenport and wife, Faasei, Fontana, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Gayle Cook, Kansas City, Kan., Kelly Renee Fehlhafer and husband, Tom, Bonner Springs; two stepdaughters, Cendy Gail Owen and husband, Steve, Linwood, and Bobbie Sue Webber, Basehor; five sisters, Donna Marie Whiles and Geraldine Roberta Pace, both of Kansas City, Kan., Minnie Charlene Cochran, Mildred Alice Johnson and husband, Robert, all of Basehor, and, Cheryl Lynn Peddicord and husband, Mort, Shawnee; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
