Herbert J. Smith 1930 - 2009 Kansas City, Kan.

Kansas City, Kan. — Services for Herbert Jennings “Herb” Smith, 79, of Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 22, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs. Burial will be in Edwardsville Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Monday, May 18, 2009, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Pikeville, Tenn., and had lived in the Kansas City area for the past 60 years. He was a truck farmer and later a produce manager, having worked at Sav-on in Kansas City, Kan. He also had worked for several years as a produce manager at Pruett's Grocery Store in Chattanooga, Tenn.
His wife, Thelma Smith, died in 1971. A grandson died in 1980 and a great-grandson died in 2005.
Survivors include three sons, David, Marty and Gary, all of Edwardsville; five daughters, Deborah Widener and Carole Bergerhofer, both of Kansas City, Kan., Pamela Hendrick and Brenda Smith, both of Sacramento, Calif., and Barbara Walker, Shawnee; two brothers, Milton, Kansas City, Kan., and Richard, Olathe; two sisters, Flossie English and Irene Herd, both of Crossville, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the funeral home.
