Mary Elizabeth Garrison Jones 1928 - 2010 Bonner Springs

Services for Mary Elizabeth Garrison Jones, 82, Bonner Springs, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010.
She – along with her twin brother James Turner Garrison – was born March 19, 1928, in Osborne, Kansas, the daughter of Leona Mae Turner Garrison and Everett Claude “E.C.” Garrison.
Mrs. Jones grew up in Osborne and attended elementary and secondary schools there, graduating from Osborne High School in 1946. Upon graduation, she attended the two-year Colorado Women’s College in Denver, receiving her Associate in Arts degree in 1948. She then returned to Kansas, where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration at Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1953.
Mrs. Jones worked for a time in a bank in Omaha, Neb. She then returned to Hays, where she worked as a bookkeeper in the bursar’s office at Fort Hays Kansas State College.
She married Arthur Richard Jones on Aug. 1, 1959. He died Jan. 10, 2004.
The Joneses made their home in Great Bend until 1972, when the family moved to Osborne. They settled in Goodland in 1975.
In Goodland, Mrs. Jones was an active member of First Christian Church, Athena Chapter of the Federated Women’s Clubs, American Association of University Women and the American Field Service chapter. She served as a volunteer at the local women’s shelter and the public library.
In 2000, Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved to Bonner Springs to be closer to their three children and their families. In Bonner Springs, Mary enjoyed attending water aerobics at the YMCA, and playing pitch at the Senior Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Arla Ann Jones, and her partner Kimberley Kreicker, Lawrence; two sons, Michael Garrison (LeAnn Marie) Jones, Bonner Springs, and Joel Lee (Jane Marie) Jones, Kansas City, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Bonner Springs Senior Center, 200 E. Third Street, Bonner Springs, KS 66012, or the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs.
