Hervey Ray Fox 1932 - 2011 Bonner Springs
Services for Hervey Ray Fox, 79, Bonner Springs, will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs. Burial will be in Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Fox died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born June 2, 1932, in Jasper, Mo., the son of Hervey Alonzo and Lois Jane (Scholl) Fox.
Mr. Fox grew up in Lamar, Mo.
After graduation, he attended Pittsburg State Teachers College. A Navy enlistee, Mr. Fox was a Korean War veteran.
In 1958 Hervey graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College with a degree in industrial arts. He first taught in Lane, Kan., then St. Louis, before settling into a career in the 1964-65 school year as a shop teacher at Bonner Springs High School. Later he also taught drivers' education. In 1983, he was moved to the middle school. He retired in 1992.
Mr. Fox was a deacon at Mission Creek Baptist Church, including several years as head deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was an active Gideon, and 50-year life member of both the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tin Can Sailors and American Legion.
A granddaughter, Tiffany Blair Sawalich, died in 1998.
On April 28, 1956, he married Loreta Ann Neptune Loreta. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Hervey Steven (Melinda) Fox, Tonganoxie; two daughters, Kimberly Ann (Troy) Sawalich, Kansas City, Kan., and Ronda Rae (Craig) Theroff, Bonner Springs; four sisters Elizabeth Topliff and Carol Wilkinson, both of Springfield, Mo., and Lois Nelson and Nancy Bowman, both of Lamar, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at the funeral home.
