David Monroe Stalcup 1928 - 2011 Tonganoxie

A memorial service for David Monroe Stalcup, 83, Tonganoxie, will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the Tonganoxie Christian Church.
Mr. Stalcup died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Leavenworth.
He was born July 25, 1928, in Harrisonville, Mo., the son of Archie and Clara Rosalie (Hicks) Stalcup. He was a 1947 graduate of Harrisonville High School.
Mr. Stalcup worked at the Foundry, and then the local grocery store. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January of 1951 and served through 1954 during the Korean War. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California and attended advanced training in inventory control at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo. After he was discharged he met his future wife, Clara Ward, and they were united in marriage Oct. 14, 1955, in Kansas City, Kan. At that time he was working in the grocery business at Myers Buyway, in Kansas City, Kan. He worked in the area grocery business from that time on for Kroger Company, Isis Foods Distributors and Midcentral Sysco Foods where he retired in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur Wilton, Charles Hoover and Archie Everett; and one sister, Rosalie Ruth.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Stalcup, of the home; two sons, Brian Stalcup, Kansas City, Kan., and Doug Stalcup, Basehor; one daughter, Ruth Beggs, Tonganoxie; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. prior to the memorial service at the church.
