Alfred E. Dyer 1922 - 2011 Tonganoxie
Graveside services for Alfred E. Dyer, 89, Tonganoxie, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Dyer died Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Nursing Center, Leavenworth.
He was born May 8, 1922, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Homer L. and Hattie (Crosthwait) Dyer. He was a graduate of Wyandotte High School, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Westgate Masonic Lodge No. 0438.
He was united in marriage to Gracie A. Hudgens on Nov. 20, 1948. She preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 1998. He started the horse-pulling contest at the Leavenworth County Fair in 1996. He worked as a pump mechanic for Phillips Petroleum, Kansas City, KS, for 42 years.
Survivors include three sons, Alfred E. Dyer, Jr., Tonganoxie, Richard N. Dyer, Lawrence, and Henry D. Dyer, Basehor; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.
