Charles Frederick Walters 1928 - 2011 Edwardsville
Services for Charles Frederick Walters, 82, Edwardsville, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Walters died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Golden Living Center Kaw River in Edwardsville.
He was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Wathena and was raised in Kansas City, Kan. He moved in 1965 to Edwardsville.
Mr. Walters served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was involved in the invasion on Inchon Harbor. He later served as a drill instructor at the Olathe Naval Air Station. Throughout his working career he was an airplane mechanic, diesel mechanic, painter, pipeline welder and pump station operator. He served as a welding inspector in Alaska as a part of the Trans-Alaskan pipeline construction. He retired from Atlantic Richfield Pipeline in 1985 after 25 years of service.
He also was active in the lives of his children serving as baseball coach, Cub master and as a Boy Scouts leader. He also supported his daughter Barbara’s interest in horses and horse competitions.
A son, John William Walters, died earlier.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Marie Walters, of the home; two children, James Frederick Walters and Barbara Marie Baker; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the funeral home.
