Tage Alfred Mortensen 1920 - 2011 Bonner Springs

Celebration of Life for Tage Alfred Mortensen, 91, Bonner Springs, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Lake of the Forest Clubhouse. A brief memorial service for family and close friends will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Bonner Springs United Methodist Church.
Mr. Mortensen died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 at his home at Lake of the Forest in Bonner Springsafter a long illness, and surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct, 1, 1920, in Hobro, Denmark, the son of Johannes and Anna Nielsine Mortensen. He attended Aalestrup Realskole and Denmark’s Polytechnic Institute in Copenhagen, graduating in 1945 with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was invited by Harold Vagtborg, then president of Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City, Mo., to join their staff, where he had a decade-long career, before going in 1958 to Hallmark Cards as a department head in mechanical engineering and in 1981 to engineer-consulting in equipment engineering. He retired in 1986.
Mr. Mortensen served on several civic, school and church boards, and was a four-term member of Lake of the Forest Board of Directors.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Else; three sons, Niels Mortensen (Sallie), Olathe, and Carsten Mortensen (Julie) and Ken Mortensen (Mary Rachel), both of Lake of the Forest; and eight grandchildren.
