Eugene A. 'Pappy' Ballew 2011 - 2011 Bonner Springs

Mass for Eugene A. “Pappy” Ballew, 89, Bonner Springs, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Shawnee. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Ballew died peacefully Thursday Sept. 8, 2011, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, while surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Lamine, Mo. He joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II in the 14th Calvary Regiment and Machine Gun Troop, which later became the 14th Tank Battalion. He received a Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He worked as a truck driver for Auto Transport and later Schwerman Trucking Company in Bonner Springs. After his retirement he enjoyed working at Brewers Country Mart, which later became the Bonner Springs Price Chopper.
His mother, Eula Mae Ballew, died earlier.
On May 29, 1946, he married Virginia Brown. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three children, Jerri (Jim) Gander and Jimmy (Vivica) Ballew, both of Bonner Springs, and Jan (Bob) Brickey, Shawnee; a sister, Josephine (Waid) Clemons, Marshall, Mo.; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
