Paul Richard Soptick Sr. 1917 - 2011

Kansas City, Kan. — Mass of Christian Burial for Paul Richard “Papa Dude” Soptick Sr., 93, Kansas City, Kan., was Wednesday, Sept. 28, at All Saint’s Parish (St. Joseph’s), Kansas City, Kan. Entombment was in Mount Calvary Mausoleum.
Mr. Soptick died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at home, surrounded by family.
He was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Paul Joseph and Eva (Ladesich) Soptick.
Mr. Soptick enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Nov. 13, 1937, and was discharged as sergeant on Oct. 27, 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 30, 1944, and was assigned to the USS Beckham as a crane operator. He was discharged as seaman first class Dec. 9, 1945.
He was an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 215 and an Explorer Leader for Troop 2225. He was the coach for Club 46 baseball team.
Mr. Soptick was a frequent seller of antiques and a frequent buyer at all garage sales and thrift shops.
He worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co., for 38½ years, retiring in 1973.
His wife of 69 years, Veronica (Brniak) Soptick, died Aug. 26, 2007. A son, Joseph, died in infancy.
Survivors include his children, Patricia (David) Scheibe, Basehor; Paul (Rita) Soptick Jr., George (Valerie) Soptick, and Gerry (Christine) Soptick, all of Kansas City, Kan., James (Cindy) Soptick, Lebanon, Mo., and Debbie (Patrick) Thompson, Independence, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and his beloved beagle, Oliver (Ollie).
